Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh nominated by Maharashtra‘s Governor on Pune University’s Senate
Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Principal, Anjuman Khirul Islam’s Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce has nominated as the Member of Senate, the highest decision making body of the University of Pune for a tenure of five years. by His Excellency Governor of Maharashtra,Dr. K. Sankaranarayana . Dr. Shaikh was given this honour for his contribution in the field of academics and selfless socio-economic and educational upliftment of masses especially the deprived one. He was also awarded with the G.T.Kulkarni “Best Commerce Teacher Award” by Pune University in 2007 as a token of respect for his teaching excellence and his popularity among the students. Having guided students for P.hD degree and for M.Phil in the faculty of Commerce and Management. He also presented a numbers of research papers in several national and international seminars and published majority of them. Recently, he visited Iran, Oman and U.A.E for his academic commitments.
In 1998, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India selected him for “National Youth award” for his role in the empowerment of youth through education and social development. The Agha Khan Palace and Gandhi memorial society also jointly honoured him with “Vidhayak Karyakarta Puraskar” by the Gandhi National Memorial Award for his constructive work two years ago for his efforts in making a conducive environment in riots prone area, thus working for peace and communal harmony.
He is also running various NGOs to achieve his dream of communal harmony, composite culture, education for all and equal opportunity for everyone. To educate the Muslim minority in the slum area of Pune, he founded Sir Syed Ahmed Khan Foundation and Center for Educational and Social Development (CESD). To work among the farmers of the suicide prone state of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development (MAHACARD) was also established by him. Dr Shaikh is running Open Schools for those students who could not get opportunity to attain completion of schooling because of their poor family condition and crunch of money. Dr.Shaikh achieved social mobility through education and one of the best examples of socially deprived people achieving high social status. His recent nomination on Senate of Pune University is honour to his work and adds one more feature in his cap.
